Vision and mission Mondo Language School
Our vision
At Mondo Language School we strive to teach newcomer children the basics of the Dutch language and culture in one year. This allows them to develop optimally within Dutch education and in society. Our focus is on a safe learning environment, a strong language base and a clear learning path, so that every student can progress with confidence to regular primary education. The students basically live in the vicinity of the Mondo Language School. Broadly speaking, this is the Amsterdam Center and South area.
Our mission
Mondo Language School welcomes non-Dutch speaking newcomers from 6-11 years old, offering them a safe place to quickly learn Dutch and feel at home in our society. Our mission is to lay a good foundation for communication in Dutch, participation in Dutch society and the creation of an open and safe atmosphere. We strive for a smooth transition to regular education and a warm transfer.
How we achieve this (action plan)
- Intensive language education: Children receive at least two hours of intensive language education every day, adapted to their individual development, with respect for their own language.
- Thematic education: We work thematically on language and vocabulary development, integrate regular subjects, and stimulate talent development.
- Knowledge of society: Children get to know Dutch society through themes, stories, parties, activities, and outings, to promote citizenship.
- Safe atmosphere: We provide a safe environment in which children can be themselves, with attention to social-emotional development and trauma-sensitive teaching.
- Teacher involvement: Teachers contribute to a good atmosphere by emphasizing mutual respect, regularly attending each other's lessons and using humor and vulnerability.
- Student involvement: Students are encouraged to treat each other respectfully, to work together and to understand that it is normal not to know something yet.
- Parental involvement: Parents are actively involved with their child and Mondo Language School through individual conversations, information meetings, and attending activities to practice Dutch and get acquainted with Dutch traditions.
